Info and tickets for our 2015 season coming soon! (In the meantime, check out our schedule.)

Boston’s premier Women’s Flat-Track Derby Association (WFTDA) roller derby league. Skating since 2005, being awesome since forever. We train in Somerville, MA; we play at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, MA and at Simoni Ice Rink in Cambridge, MA.

About the Dames

We are Boston’s first and only all-female, DIY, skater-owned-and-operated flat track roller derby league and proud members of the WFTDA.

The Boston Derby Dames have been skating their hearts out since May 2005 when the first intrepid rollergirls began training at both roller and hockey rinks throughout greater Boston. The league now boasts more than 70 active skaters on four home teams: the Arkham Horrors, Cosmonaughties, Nutcrackers, and Wicked Pissahs. Our all-star travel team, the Boston Massacre, has been in action since October 2005 and has traveled to play teams in Las Vegas, Columbus, Madison, and Seattle to name a few. We’ve hosted Charm City (MD), Atlanta, Gotham (NYC), Cincinnati, Dominion (VA), Kansas, and more.

We are honored to have been WFTDA’s July 2011 Featured League! Read that story to get the behind-the-scenes scoop about the Boston Derby Dames.

Where we play

Our home base is in Somerville, MA, but we play at Simoni Rink in Cambridge during the summer and just north of Boston at Shriners Auditorium during the spring and fall. Our bouts often sell out, so be sure to purchase your tickets online ahead of time!

Boston bouts are family-friendly, if sometimes loud. We try to keep things largely PG—though you may catch some PG-13 language from time to time—but children of all ages are welcome. We love seeing young fans (and future derby stars)!

Each bout consists of two 30-minute periods and a brief halftime. You can also browse the merch corridor, visit our amazing sponsors and vendors, and have your photo taken as a rollergirl.

At Shriners Auditorium, beer and wine is served before 9PM; at 9PM, the on-site Fez Room opens with a full bar. Concessions are available until 9PM and include burgers, popcorn, soda, and soft pretzels. Simoni Rink has no beer or wine available, but there are often food trucks and other family-friendly beverages.

What skates should I get? What wheels are best? What do the Dames use?

We are often asked for equipment recommendations, but the Dames don’t endorse any particular skate or skate package, nor do we even agree among ourselves what equipment is best! We do, however, agree that The Bruised Boutique is the best place to go for all your derby needs. We suggest that you determine what price range you’re comfortable with, and ask lots of questions. Remember, good skates aren’t cheap, but it takes a lot more than expensive equipment to make a great skater.

The Bruised Boutique is the world’s largest derby store. Run by roller girls, and owned by BDD’s very own Dee Stortion, the Bruised Boutique staff has the experience and the expertise to help you find the right equipment to supplement your love of roller derby. They are also a repair shop, and are more than happy to fix your equipment issues. Check out their site for directions and contact info.
